About Velvedene
Velvedene played their first gig in November 2003, to a small number of friends in a back room of a Fitzroy pub. The band plays a couple of gigs a year, depending on the commitments of the band members. Songs are mostly written by James Bellew, then given life my other members of the band. So essentially Velvedene is a recording band which plays live every now and then. On the 2007 CD “Carpet Bomb” there were also plenty of guest players such as Dave Evans on accordian and Craig Lauritson on drums (for the Adelaide recording session at Mixmasters). Sean Allwood (guitarist) lives in Adelaide, so much of the collaboration occurs on-line, which is easier now with the progress of technology.
